Akash Ambani announces Reliance Jio’s collaboration with IIT-Bombay for development of ‘Bharat GPT’ and upcoming TV operating system launch.
Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm, announced on Wednesday that the company is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay to introduce a program called ‘Bharat GPT’. Additionally, the company, which is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, is considering the launch of a television operating system and has been working on it for some time. Ambani, speaking at the institute’s annual Techfest, emphasized the significance of creating a development ecosystem for the company and revealed that work on the vision of “Jio 2.0” is already underway.
“We have been working on a project with IIT Bombay to launch the Bharat GPT programme,” he said while talking about the partnership between Jio and the leading technology school that dates back to 2014.
Right now, we’ve just scratched the surface with large language models and generative artificial intelligence, and the next decade will be defined by these applications, he said.
Ambani said AI will transform every product and service area, adding, “We are working hard to launch AI not only vertically in our organization but also horizontally across all our sectors,” he said.
The company brings products and services to the market in the media sector, trade, communication and also in devices, he added.
“We have been working on our own operating system for televisions for some time now and we are thinking extensively about how to launch it,” Ambani said.
Ambani said 2024 will be a special year for the family as his brother is set to get married this year.
He also said that the company is very excited about offering private 5G networks, where it will provide a 5G stack to any company regardless of its size.
Ambani called India the “biggest innovation hub” for the next decade and exuded confidence that the country will be a $6 trillion economy by the end of the decade.
AI is going to “consume everything,” Ambani said, describing how his brother-in-law showed him an AI app to adjust the temperature of a mattress yesterday. “To me, yes AI means AI, but it also means all-inclusive,” he said.
At Jio, he said, the company operates on the belief that what it is doing is good for India, naming money as a “by-product” of the service provided to the country.
Calling Jio the world’s biggest startup, Ambani said young entrepreneurs need not fear failure.
Ambani also asked entrepreneurs to work for social good, especially if carried in the consumer space, and also asked everyone to be deeply passionate about the work they do.
He said technology is the “great equalizer” as it crosses boundaries, including demographic and caste boundaries, adding that Jio is always on the lookout for future technology.
